Dr Robert Manley is a collaborative pianist, cellist, recorder player, and academic.
Prior to moving to Armidale in 2023, Rob worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Queensland (UQ) School of Music.
His research investigated socio-cultural and musical factors that influence audience engagement with classical music in regional Australian communities.
Rob has worked as a collaborative pianist at UQ, Queensland Ballet, and the Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition.
As a section cellist, Rob has played with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and Camerata.
As a recorder player, Rob has performed as soloist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and tutored for the Australasian Recorder Festival.
Other festival appearances include the Queensland Music Festival, New England Bach Festival, 4MBS Festival of Classics, and Huon Valley Chamber Music Festival.
Rob studied the piano with Joyce Skelton and Max Olding, recorder with Dr Barnaby Ralph, and later the cello with Howard Penny at the Australian National Academy of Music (Melbourne).
